As the first month of 2017 draws to a close, MoneyThumb's Rules of Thumb blog has chosen what we feel are the best accounting-related blog posts from our peers for the month of January 2017. We think you will agree that the following posts deserve merit and attention from accountants, bookkeepers, and CPAs.
Best Accounting-Related Blog Posts for January 2017
- This post from Bill Taylor at Accounting Today, Successfully Climb the Networking Ladder to Build Your Accounting Practice, has a lot of good information for accountants, especially those of you who regularly attend accounting events. What really stands out about this accounting blog post is how Mr. Taylor gets down to brass tacks when discussing how we feel about accounting events. Too often we attend these events with the wrong notion of finding new clients, instead of viewing it as a chance to open several other new doors.
But as Bill Taylor states, "While attending a networking event, the key is to look for people to Network with, as opposed to looking for future clients. In fact, networking is the whole point of a networking event! Even the most seasoned networkers can fall into the trap of looking for prospects when attending events. Keep in mind that while the person standing in front of you with a napkin wrapped around a sweating imported beer may not be the ideal client, they could however be a potential doorway to a great network of opportunities."
- We are really loving this post from an accounting blog we just discovered in our research. The accounting firm of Anderson, Folkoff and Co talks about Changes Your Business Should Know About in 2017. Not only is this a timely and very informative read for business owners, but accountants too can stay abreast of changes happening in business in 2017. The list is simple but effective, a real must read.
- One website and blog that is popular in many areas as well as taxes and accounting is Thomas Reuters. This post, U.S. IRS Updates List of International No-Ruling Areas is such an important piece of information for any accountants or CPAs who handle foreign accounts for clients.
- Last but certainly not least is something a little different from the ClearBooks blog out of the UK. We always think knowledge is power, especially when it comes to accounting and building your accounting practice. They offer a free eBook report on how to market your accounting practice, and this is something which is crucial for most accountants, bookkeepers and CPAs with the advent of a new year. Sign up to receive this free report here and you will be added to their informative newsletter.
The staff at MoneyThumb and the Rules of Thumb blog hope each of these best accounting-related blog posts help you further your career and your small business in the new year.
