Correcting Payee Information

When you convert a TD Bank PDF statement, the payee will end up in the memo field. This happens because TD Bank puts the payee information on a second line in their bank statements as shown below. There are other banks that also use this format.

When you try to convert a PDF bank statement like this one from TD Bank, you will notice that the Payee column contains the first line for each transaction and the Memo column contains the information on the second and third lines. For most users, this information will need to be switched. This is an easy fix that can be done in Preview Mode.

First, you need to remove the default column labels from the pulldown menus. You can do this when you click the Clear button at the bottom of the screen, near the middle. This is shown below.

Next, under the column title Memo, choose Payee & Memo. Now both the Payee  and Memo fields will contain this information. Then, under the Payee column, select Memo Add-on. This information will appear in the Memo field as well. Finally, select the column names for Date and Amount (or Debits & Credits, depending on your statement).

You can now import and convert TD Bank PDF Statement.
